Skilak Lake lies at the base of the Kenai Mountain Range, nestled within the heart of the Kenai River watershed. Fed by the Upper Kenai River at its northwest end and flowing into the Middle Kenai River from its southern shore, this pristine lake is rich in history and surrounded by the breathtaking Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. While it may not be the most prolific bear-viewing destination due to its proximity to human activity, its stunning turquoise waters, diverse birdlife, and thriving fish populations make it a true hidden gem.

“A bear does not ask where the path leads—it simply follows the adventure. Travel with the same courage.”
Popular bear viewing locations such as Katmai National Park, Lake Clark National Park and Preserve and Kodiak Island are all well known for their unique bear viewing opportunities. Many of these locations are remote and difficult to visit without expensive and time-consuming travel.
Our bear tours are all Kenai Peninsula based and include the most affordable options available in all of Alaska. We frequent locations that offer some of the most dependable and dynamic bear viewing opportunities along with breathtaking scenery and all of our trips depart from easy to reach Kenai Peninsula locations.
For many visitors to Alaska, seeing a bear in the wild is as iconic as catching a salmon, viewing a glacier or catching a glimpse of the northern lights. Like so many unique attractions Alaska has to offer, bear viewing has become one of the most sought-after goals for any complete Alaska vacation. Even for those that live and work around these magnificent creatures, viewing them in their own environment never gets old. Each and every bear; both brown and black is unique and the opportunity to spend time with them in the wilds of Alaska is a memory that will literally last a lifetime.
